FAQ
Questions, answered
The things people ask us most, in plain English. Don't see yours? We're always happy to talk it through — no pressure.
Getting started
How do I figure out what I actually need?
That's exactly what we're here for — you don't need to know the jargon. The quickest way is our free assessment: answer a few plain-English questions and you'll get a clear summary of what would help. Prefer to just talk it through? Book a free 30-minute consult and we'll point you the right way, no obligation.
What does it cost?
It depends on what you need, but we publish honest starting points on our pricing page so there are no surprises — IT support from $65/month per device, websites from $600, and a free 30-minute consult to start. Every business is a little different, so we'll always give you a clear, specific quote before any work begins.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
Almost never. Most of our work is month-to-month, so you're free to stop any time. We only use a longer agreement when the work genuinely calls for it — and even then, only if it suits your business.
How quickly do you respond?
We aim to get back to you within about 4 hours on a business day (we're around Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm Pacific). When something's urgent — a site down or a security worry — tell us, and we move faster.
How we work
What do you actually do?
Four things, all under one roof: IT support (fixing and maintaining your tech), website design, ongoing website management, and tech consulting (honest advice on the decisions that are slowing you down). The nice part is you get one partner who understands your whole setup, instead of juggling three different vendors.
Are you local, or do you work remotely?
We're based in the Seattle area (Renton) and happy to come on-site when it helps, but most of what we do — support, websites, monitoring — is handled remotely. That means you get help quickly whether you're down the street or across the state.
I already have a website — can you just improve it or take it over?
Absolutely. You don't have to start from scratch. We can refresh and modernize what you've got, fix what's not working, or take over the ongoing updates, backups, and security so you never have to think about it.
Will I be able to update things myself?
Yes — we build sites so you can make simple updates without waiting on anyone, and we'll show you how. And when you'd rather not, we're right here to handle it for you.
What happens after a project is finished?
We don't disappear. You'll have someone to call, and you can add ongoing support or website management whenever you like — so the thing we built keeps working long after launch day.
Do I need to be technical to work with you?
Not at all — that's the whole idea behind ThatNerdKnows. We explain everything in plain English, skip the jargon, and never make you feel silly for asking. Most of our clients aren't technical, and they shouldn't have to be.
For therapy & counseling practices
Do you work with therapists and mental-health practices?
Yes — it's where we got our start, and a big part of who we still serve. We understand what a practice needs from its website: a calm, trustworthy first impression, an easy way to book, and content that helps the right clients feel like they've found the right person.
Can you handle HIPAA and client privacy on intake forms?
We take it seriously. We won't collect sensitive client information through a generic contact form — for anything clinical, we set you up with a secure, HIPAA-appropriate intake system that will sign a Business Associate Agreement. When it comes to protected information, our rule is simple: when in doubt, keep it out.
